Marathon Man Sam achieves his goal….
Last Sunday our greenkeeper Sam Newbould joined some of the world’s elite marathon runners and 40,000 others and ran 26 miles 385 yards through the streets of London past the iconic landmarks in support of a great charity….CLIC Sargent. You may recall that in October 2018 Sam held a Charity Golf Day at the club and announced his intention to run in this year’s marathon and told the story of his cousin Will Hunt who had been treated for a brain tumour just after his 18th birthday. Since last October Sam had trained hard for his big day and after he had successfully completed the race Sam sent a message to all his backers and supporters that reads: “So on Sunday I completed the London marathon raising a massive £2,750 for my amazing charity CLIC Sargent. My original target was £2,000, so understandably I am over the moon with the outcome. I would like to thank everyone at the club for supporting and sponsoring me on the journey. I completed the run in 4 hours 57 minutes and 50 seconds which I am very happy with, especially as my knees gave up on me after 15 miles. Again thank you very much for all of your support. I could not have raised that amount of money without all of you.” Congratulations Sam great effort, you are an inspiration. |

Ping Welsh Junior Tour Event Volunteers…..a big thank you
On Sunday 28th April 2019 CGC proudly hosted the Wales Golf Ping Welsh Junior Tour Event. With 80 junior entrants taking part from all over Wales including our own Jona Marks and Tomos Parry. The event was played in four age groups, under 14’s, under 12’s, under 10’s and under 8’s. It was a pleasure to witness some very good young players enjoying our course and thank goodness that the weather calmed down after storm Hannah. Apart from a poor father from Wrexham who locked his car keys in the boot with their son’s clubs requiring his wife to drive down to the club to avoid an expensive car repair and to enable their son to play golf….everything went very well. It was a great opportunity for the club to showcase our fantastic course and facilities and Wales Golf were very complementary and congratulated the club and all the volunteers for helping with the course marshalling and ball spotting responsibilities. During the presentations our own Wales Golf Past President Jeff Harries thanked the CGC and presented the club with a plaque to commemorate the event. The Golf Team would like to add their thanks to those members who volunteered all of whom enjoyed the experience of helping out and watching some excellent junior golf being played. Thank you all for your help and support, you did the club proud! In addition the Golf Team would like to pay special tribute to our catering team who coped admirably on the day that Sandy and Martin left to start their four week Australian holiday. The car park was overflowing with the vast number of visitors but nevertheless the team accommodated the catering needs of everyone in addition to their usual Sunday lunch customers. Well done to the catering team, brilliant job and a fantastic effort. |

Knights Captain Brett Walker this week informed that with regret Vice-Captain John Boreham has stepped down due to impending shoulder surgery that is scheduled for May with an estimated rehabilitation period of 3-6 months. The club send their best wishes to John for a successful operation and hope for his speedy recovery and return to full health, enabling him to get back to playing golf as soon as possible. Consequently Brett has announced that Cliff Webb will replace John as Vice-Captain this year and that he will be thrown in at the deep-end this Saturday when he takes the reins for the Knights away match at Haverfordwest.
