As most of you will be aware the use of winter greens has caused a lot of discussion amongst the members over the last few months. The state of the 15th winter green in particular has been a source of consternation.
The cause of the wet conditions around the 15th temporary green is due to thatch in the turf in this area which does not allow the water to drain into the sub soil. Hollow tining in this area is not an option due to stones beneath the surface which would cause damage to the tines, making this not a viable option. With this in mind it has been decided to dig up and replace the whole area of the approach to the 15th green and replace it with new turf laid on a bed of divot mix. This will alleviate the vast majority of the problem in the winter months and greatly improve the look and playability of the approach to the green in the summer.
This work is being commenced tomorrow, Tuesday 6th February. The 15th will be out of play from then and we will be using the practice chipping green as a substitute. Hopefully if all goes well the 15th will be back in use for the Duxberry Shield, but this is not guaranteed.
Unfortunately we do not have enough money in the budget to cover the cost of this procedure, but we will be implementing various functions, draws, etc. to recoup this cost throughout the year. Please support all these efforts where you can and if you have any suggestions on fund raising we would be pleased to hear them.
Thank you
The Directors
