Friday                   Past Captains Day
On Friday 21st June the Past Captains held their annual dinner at the club. The weather for a change was good and eleven Past Captains ventured on the fairways. There were some very good scores but Gerald Vaughan came to the fore winning the prestigious trophy for a third time.

Five more Past Captains attended the dinner and the President Chris Jones presided over the evening and his introductory speech was very entertaining and informative. Tradition has it that last year’s Captain Peter Jones is sommelier for the evening and after an unsteady start managed to cater to the needs of the esteemed guests.

Thanks must go to Past Captain Mr Alan Williams who arranged the evening and grateful thanks also to Martin, Sandy and all the staff for the quality of food and service, first class as usual. A great night was had by all!

1st Gerald Vaughan                          38 pts

Sunday                 South Wales Seniors Classic Bowl
Any away match in this competition is a tough ask but the team showed their true colours in winning 2 & 1 at Haverfordwest and will now play in the quarter final at Glynhir on 18th July. Although Clive Evans & Haydn Harries lost, Gary Evans & Tony Jones won 3 & 2. The last pair of Peter Williams & Alan Lewis were all square after 16, went 1 up after Peter birdied the 17th but they lost the 18th for all square. This meant going up the 1st again where after a great drive by Alan, his 2nd shot landed 8 feet from the hole and he sunk the birdie for a great win.

Other news:
Langland Bay Seniors
With several of our members supporting the Langland Bay Seniors Open in the past few years and winning the different categories I may add, it is pleasing that Langland Bay Seniors are reciprocating by visiting Carmarthen last Wednesday for their Seniors away day.

Bedfordshire Dogs

When I saw this entry on our BRS I wondered if we were going to be inundated with an abundance of dogs as a potential warm up for Crufts. How wrong could I have been.
What an interesting name for a Society though, I’ll leave you to work it out but it may help as the organiser is David Owen Golf Society. So what attracts them to our Golf Club you may ask. Well, the organiser, has strong roots in the area and is a country member.. Although he has spent most of his working life across the border & abroad he has brought a party from Bedfordshire to play Carmarthen for the past 10 years so croeso cynnes/warm welcome to you all and our sincere gratitude for making the long trek once again to West Wales. David has a strong affiliation with the Scarlets and also Nantgaredig RFC who as you will appreciate the latter rugby club sponsor our 5th hole. Vice Captain Ryan Bowen met up with the 20 members when enjoying a welcome breakfast before going out to play our wonderful course on a glorious sunny day.
Feedback from the group – CGC is always a favourite venue and the fairways and greens were better than ever but being honest, daisies on the tees, mmmm.. ‘We always receive a great welcome and the guys simply adore Sandy. The breakfast is superb and the ease of booking and generally the warm response from members that a 20 strong society using the course is appreciated’.

Seniors Open July 2nd
Just a gentle reminder to our Senior members that if you have not yet done so, there is still time to enter our Seniors Open on Tuesday 2nd July.  Booking is available through BRS. Also, why not bring a guest(s) to play our fantastic course at the bargain cost of £15 for visitors. Our thanks to the Senior members that have donated a prize for the raffle but if you have not done so, there is still plenty of time, please contact Rodri, Huw, Hywel or Ryan.

Finally, it goes without saying that we as members look forward to receiving the weekly updates as is it an important club information tool.  I wonder though if members really appreciate how much work goes on behind the scenes in populating these emails.  This week has been very busy so my apologies for the lengthy news. I decided to take over this role for the 2 weeks Fred is away on holidays and all I can say is, ‘don’t forget to come back.’

Signing out.
