Victory Shield Foursomes Match vs Cardigan
Thursday 16th May at Tenby Golf Club
Jamie Dean and Tom Williams represented the club in the Victory Shield match played at Tenby GC last Thursday 16th May.  As stated in last week's newsletter in this tournament matches are played in the tough foursomes format and despite taking an early lead our pair could not shake off the Cardigan pairing.

The decisive moment in the match came at the short par four fourteenth with Cardigan driving to the mouth of the green setting up an eagle putting opportunity which was not taken but they did win the hole.  On the next hole, the par five fifteenth, despite missing the fairway left Cardigan managed to hit the green with their second short which could not be equalled by Carmarthen.    Jamie and Tom gave everything on the night but alas it was not to be and Cardigan went on to win the match one up.

The Royal & Ancient Golf Society of St Arvans (RAGS)
Another satisfied society….!
The Golf Team would like to share with our members the following complimentary email message that was received this week from this society expressing how pleased they were when they visited Carmarthen GC two weeks ago.  Well done and thank you to everyone involved for making this society feel welcome and want to return again at some point in the future:

On May 8th, nine intrepid travellers from St Pierre made the hazardous journey from Chepstow to Carmarthen to meet up with our old friend and colleague John Edward Thomas. The original plan was to come two weeks earlier but the weather prospects were poor so we delayed.  On the given day we battled through torrential rain at Bridgend and arrived with some trepidation at Rhydymarchog for light refreshments before heading for the Golf Course.

The Pro Shop staff were very welcoming and we received our starting instructions whilst sheltering from the latest squall.  Golf began in a rain shower but, having got here, we were not to be put off.  Occasional rain interfered particularly with putting but we battled through and withstood the strong winds, so prevalent in your part of the world.

We enjoyed the course very much and, had the weather been kinder, we would have enjoyed the glorious views even more.  We encountered some difficulties with the various tee and fairway crossovers and some of us actually managed to tee off the wrong way on the 11th.  It just shows what wind and rain can do to the ageing brain!!  Despite the weather we had some excellent scoring, with the winner on the day recording 39 points.

At the end of golf, we were again looked after very well and enjoyed a drink and an “All Day Breakfast” in your lovely Clubhouse.  On the journey home, we again encountered torrential rain in West Glamorgan so we could count our lucky stars that it was never that bad in Carmarthen!!

Please give our warmest thanks to all your staff and we hope to return to play again, this time in bright sunshine so that we can really appreciate your facilities and the beautiful countryside surrounding it.

Kindest regards,

Tony

Compliments to the Chief…..
The Golf Team would like to share with our members the following complimentary feedback received from a friend of our Vice-Captain, Ryan Bowen who recently visited the club with his family for Sunday lunch.  Well done to the catering team.

'Ryan has constantly said how good the food at the golf club is and as a family of fourteen we finally visited for Sunday lunch.  We were not disappointed as the food was of exceptional quality in lovely scenic surroundings.  The beef melted in my mouth and the blackberry roulade ....wow!!  Please pass on my compliments to the catering team'.
