Dear Member

Captains Day for Juniors
Saturday 1st June

Last Saturday it was my pleasure to host Captains Day for Juniors with nineteen of our young golfers taking part.  Walking the course and watching some of the players, the thought occurred to me that our future CGC club champion or even a future club Captain could be out on the course.

Congratulations to the group winners and runners-up and a special mention for is Luca Thomas’ brother Joby who got the nett hole-in-one.

I would to thank Carwyn Evans and Jamie Dean for helping out with the arrangements and to congratulate our junior section organiser Brett Walker who is doing a great job in administering the junior section and helping to provide the opportunity for our young golfers to learn about the game, the etiquette and develop their skills.  Well done Brett, keep up the good work.

Logi’s Wheelchair Charity Golf Challenge

The Golf Team would like to congratulate Scott Jones, Sam Reynolds, Sam Harries and Sion Jenkins for completing their 72 hole of golf in one day challenge to raise £300 to contribute to the purchase of an eTrike for Logan Dagnall who is an eleven year old boy with Cerebral Palsy and Mitochondrial Disease.

Last Saturday’s 72 hole golf challenge involved playing the first round at Ashburnham GC, the second round at Derllys Court GC and the final two rounds at Carmarthen starting at first light and finishing late.

As explained in the web posts to understand and appreciate the magnitude of the challenge you need consider that one round of golf normally takes roughly four hours and is approximately 6,500 yards long...so four rounds in one day was a massive test when all the travelling was taken into consideration.

Well done lads what a brilliant effort and all for a very worthy cause.

Sadly our flag is at half-mast again….
It is with great sadness that the club received news this week of the passing of one of our long standing members, Mr Jeff Hill of the Forge Restaurant St Clears.

Jeff who had been a member of Carmarthen Golf Club from the 1960’s until the turn of the century when his health failed, passed away at the end of May.

Out of respect to Jeff and his family as a club we will sadly fly our flag at half-mast and extend our most sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Jeff’s family and friends at this most difficult time.

And finally…….
Thank you to those who have been kind enough to provide stories and pictures for inclusion in this week’s update.  If you have anything that you would like to share please forward to the email address below and we will do our best to incorporate them.
