Dear Member

Message from the Directors Playmore Golf Announcement…..
Carmarthen Golf Club in conjunction with Playmore Golf will be launching a new membership category with effect from Monday 13th May.   Flexi membership is a point’s based system which is specifically designed for the casual golfer who plays very few rounds during the year.
Four other local clubs are members of this scheme which enables the Flexi member to play Tenby, Ashburnam, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and ourselves, as well as using their points at any other club in the UK who are members of the scheme.   Details of this new scheme will be published on our website from next Monday.

Club PGA Professional News….
Members will be aware from previous newsletters that Clive Coombs is currently running joint tuition sessions with the ladies every Wednesday and these are proving to be very popular.  The group sessions comprise of 8 to 10 ladies who pay £6 each for one hour and it has gone down well.
Clive is now interested in providing the same arrangement for male members.  Clive has suggested Tuesdays for these.  Morning or afternoon sessions could be arranged for members available during the day and early evening, say 5.30pm to 6.30pm for members who work day time hours.   Everyone is welcome and Clive would like to emphasise that the invitation extends to none members (friends or family) who may like to join members as means of introduction to the first class facilities that are on offer at our friendly and welcoming club.   Anyone who is interested please make contact with Clive who would be most grateful for your support and delighted to help you to develop your game.

Thursday - Seniors Team vs Mond Valley Away
Last Thursday the seniors visited Mond Valley GC on a fine but cold spring day.  Captain Rodri Davies had picked a strong team to play this fixture on their relatively short course.    The Mond was in good condition however it was difficult to get used to the speed of the greens that were very slow compared to Carmarthen GC.   The result was match halved 4-4.

Sunday - Tigers vs Ashburnham Away
Last Sunday the Tigers were on the road for their Dyfed League Jeff Harries Bowl first round match against the old foe Ashburnham Golf Club.  The weather conditions were good, and as always the course was in fantastic condition.   Team Captain Paul Davies picked a strong team with a mix of handicaps from 2 to 13 however when playing a foursomes format it is never easy to get the balance right, especially away from home.  Unfortunately this was to be the case with the Ash taking the win 5½ to 1½.    Nevertheless the team had a great welcome and enjoyable day and thanks go to Ashburnham for giving two courtesy tee slots for CGC supporting squad members to have a round.   The Tigers now turn their attention back to the league and a big thanks goes out to the squad who were available for this match, your support is much appreciated.

Junior Tour Event - Sunday 28th April 2019
The Golf Team would like to share with our members the following complimentary email message that was received this week from Wales Golf Coordinator, Sandy Veale:

Hi All Just thought I would write a quick note to say thank you to Carmarthen Golf Club for hosting our Junior Tour event with yourselves a couple of weeks ago.  The hospitality of the club was superb as ever and competitors only had kind words to say about the condition of the course, catering, volunteers and overall support from the clubs staff and members.   Please pass on these thanks to the rest of the club.  I can also confirm that our report for the event is live and the results are live on the website.  Please feel free to use this in any club bulletins regarding the event.  The links to these are below.   Results: http://www.walesgolf.org/ping-wjt-results-2019/ Report: http://www.walesgolf.org/junior-golfers-produce-storming-performance-at-carmarthen/   Kind Regards   Sandy Veale Golf Coordinator - Wales Golf

R&A 9-Hole Qualifier Reminder Sunday 19th May is the date for your diary….
The Golf Team would like to remind members that this 9-hole competition is open to male and female players and the handicap limit is men 28 and ladies 36.  The format is teams of two, each player’s individual scores will be added together at the end of play.  The best two scores from our club will then be submitted to Wales Golf to go into a league table.
The top two pairs from this league will be invited to play in the 9-hole final to be held at Royal Portrush GC on Saturday 13th July.
Entry for this event is free so the club hope that members will all participate….last year two members from our club narrowly missed out on count back so it is all to play for.

CGC 2019 Seniors Mixed Team Open Monday 20th May is the date for your diary….
The Golf Team would like to remind members that the club is holding their Seniors Mixed Team Open on Monday 20th May and that as club members you are entitled to enter at half the published price.    The number of entries needs to be boosted so at £7.50 per person, £30 per team why not support the club and enter for this event.  As previously stated by populating the field it will help generate the feeling of supply and demand and hopefully improve the number of visitor bookings.   Please support the club and tell your family and friends.
